Our Story

Assisted Living AdministratorWe were owners and operators of assisted living communities in two states: Oregon and California. Every day we dealt with staff turnover, hard to please licensing surveyors, challenging families and attorneys looking for a reason to sue us. We needed our administrators and managers, as well as every single one of our care staff to provide care the way we wanted it, ever minute of every day.

We needed to get new and experienced Administrators ready to hit the ground running fast; to meet the needs of the most challenging resident, while being sensitive to the experiences of families and guests. To provide them with the necessary management skills to develop the very best team possible.

We looked for workshops and for trainers to bring into the communities. We needed to train for skills and an understanding heart. We also needed to test for competency, and provide documentation of every bit of our training.

In the end, we decided to build an e-learning company to do exactly that. This would be an e-learning company that would save time and money. It would train managers and administrators without forcing them to take precious time away from their buildings and team. It would train staff to provide compassionate, quality care to every single resident, every single day.

It would be so much more than just cartoon characters and quick “no-brainer” quizzes. It would be fun and interesting, differentiate between management level training and staff training, but most importantly it would train the hearts of the team instead of just giving them facts to learn.

In the end, we sold our assisted living communities to be able to focus all of our efforts and energies on this company.

We hired a team of educators, technology experts and course developers who know how to train the whole person, creatively and effectively, harnessing the incredible power of the internet.

Meet the Team

Sharon K. Brothers, MSW

Founder, Institue for Professional Care Education

Sharon brings her experience as a social worker, educator and assisted living owner and operator to her passion as the founder and CEO of the Institue for Professional Care Education.

“I have worked my entire life to bring quality care and services to seniors,” Sharon says. “But it wasn’t until my own mother was in a car accident, needing first acute care, then skilled and assisted living care, that I lived the family experience. It was eye-opening, and shaped so much of what we have developed with aQuire Training and EasyCEU. The themes of the caring for the whole person, understanding the family’s experience and providing care wherever the person is – at home, in a community based care setting or in skilled or acute care – weaves through all of our training courses. The passion, the attention to detail, and the focus on the needs of the individual makes all the difference to the care that is delivered.”

Sharon’s leadership of the EasyCEU team is based on the concept of building a company that prepares the next generation to provide care to seniors, using the very best practices in e-learning and technology, combining it with a strong sense of purpose – and fun.

Desiree hails from Emporia, Kansas where she earned her BS in Education from Emporia State University in 2000. After teaching for four years, Desiree joined the staff, assisting clients with their online learning and helping with course development. The first voice you’ll hear on the phone is often Desiree’s.


Jennifer Waldron

Business Development Associate

As a liaison between the business development and client services team, Jennifer works to sustain and build relationships with clients. She works in the effort to meet mutual business goals while committing herself and our company to the highest level of expectation in customer relations. Jennifer is a graduate of Ithaca College with a BA in Sociology. An east coast transplant, she brings her caregiver and teaching experience with her to EasyCEU.
