Mealtimes are often highlights of the day, yet they can be the most stressful times for people with Alzheimer’s. This presentation shares activities, and verbal and visual cues to trigger eating and improve the dining experience. Find out the many reasons why a person may not be eating, and pick up some tidbits to enhance mealtimes. You’ll be amazed at the simple, little details that can make this time easier for you – and especially the person you’re caring for. Participants always leave with lots of practical ideas to restore the pleasure of dining to those who need it most.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify what meal time traditions trigger memories for people with dementia which will ultimately improve the dining experience.
  • Understand the many reasons why people with Alzheimer’s have difficulty eating.
  • Incorporate practical solutions that will enhance the dining experience.
  • Apply the development level of the person with dementia to better assist dependent diners.

About the Instructor

She has a B.A. from Iowa State University and extensive experience with people who have Alzheimer’s. Jolene has been a keynote speaker at many conferences where family members, CNAs, and professionals share what works and doesn’t work.
